Paintball began in 1981. Paintball markers were originally created in early 1970s. They were used as tools for marking trees and livestock, very different from they are used today. The first paintball games were played in 1981.

Paintball is an adrenaline-pumping game, in which each person carries a paintball marker. From the start of the game, you hunt down your opponent, looking for that very import kill. Paintball is played regardless of age, race or gender. The only thing that matters, is whether you have a loaded paintball marker and are up for some adventure and competition.

The paintballs themselves are non-toxic, bio-degradable, and shouldn’t stain clothing. A ball is propelled through the marker using air/oxygen or CO2. All paintball markers are permitted to shoot below 300 FPS (feet per second), and all shoot at around 270 FPS (296km/h) on the range, thus, players on the field are encouraged to wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants, and to keep their masks on at all times for safety’s sake. A paintball travelling through the air slows down pretty quickly, giving you about 50 metres’ accuracy and effectiveness, and progressively less so up to 100 metres.

Wearing correct clothing as well as the supplied facial protection makes paintball one of the safest sports around. The game has a very low injury rate: only 1 in 4000 players will have to see a doctor for a paintball-related injury, which usually range from ankle sprains to scratches from the surrounding bush. Note that these aren’t accidents caused by paintball itself. Compare this to football, in which 1 in 33 players visit hospitals each year for medical attention to injuries directly caused by playing the sport.

Paintball has three game types: Bush Ball, Speedball and MilSim.

Bush Ball is played in light to heavy bush, in which people can move stealthily to position themselves to take the shot that will eliminate another player. Recommended for the people who like a slower game and want to pull out their camouflage.

Speedball, on the other hand, is a fast-paced game of paintball that involves bunkers made from tires, pallets and many other items. Speedball is more the game for those who are hesitant to move up and make fast moves through the field. Airball, a variant of Speedball, utilises blow-up bunkers, similar in construction to jumping castles. Speedball is very spectator-friendly and promises a lot of high-velocity action.

MilSim Paintball is a new form of paintball that is steadily gaining popularity. MilSim stands for Military Simulated games. These games generally require strategic planning and a great amount of teamwork.
